As it gets colder, I find myself looking forward to coming home more and more after work- to relax, unwind and be with my family. Here’s the roundup of what I’ve been loving lately:
Dissolving Boundaries by Anoushka Shankar: This song is from her album Land of Gold, which we saw live a few months ago at City Winery. Listening to the album again recently, I am pretty blown away by how innovative it is. This song stands out to me, but they are all worth listening to. It was my favorite among the ones she performed that night.
Aaj jaane ki Zid na Karo by Arijit Singh: Lately I find myself listening to a beautuflly sung song asking who’s the singer? More often than not, I find out that it’s Arijit Singh. I guess I am a little late in discovering this voice, but I greatly enjoy the emotion with which he sings. His rendition of this ghazal is a particular favorite of mine and has been on repeat.
Arrival: This film is definitely not what I thought it would be about. It is thought provoking and I found it especially interesting, as a Speech and Language Pathologist. The idea of language and communication plays a large role here, as well as the concept of time. I think this is my favorite movie of 2016.
Passengers: I wasn’t expecting to like this movie as much as I did! I don’t want to give away too much but the concept is very interesting. You will have a conversation with your loved one about this one all the way home.
La La Land: If you like music and if you like love stories, then you will love this movie. I love everything about this movie EXCEPT for the ending! Also let’s not forget that it won every Golden Globe award that it was nominated for.
an equal music– I am about 200 pages into this book and have been enjoying it very much. I wouldn’t call it a light read and it did take me some time to get into it, but the writing is very impressive. This is my first Vikram Seth read and I’m looking forward to reading more of his work.
Rose Hand And Body Cream- This was gifted to me by a dear friend for Christmas and I’ve been using it every evening post showering. The rose scent is subtle yet lingers just long enough. I also love the lip balm by the brand. Their products are indulgent but so worth it.
I am obsessed with this mask! It has replaced pretty much all my other masks. See my review Honey Potion Renewing Antioxidant Hydration Mask:here.
The Book of Awakening Inspiration Cards: After having read the book I knew I had to get these inspirational cards. I like choosing one at random every morning and when I have the time, to do some reflective writing. It’s a peaceful way to start the day.
Elements of pizza: I purchased this cookbook for my husband and we have been enjoying the best homemade pizza ever since. Being a natural baker, he is no novice to baking his own pizza from scratch, but after discovering this book, his pizza game has elevated. His thoughts: “A Neapolitan pizza requires much less yeast than you would expect. Overall the ingredients are quite simple and it’s just a matter of technique. Lastly, a pizza stone is essential”. The results? You will have to come over one of these days to find out! I don’t think I can ever eat pizza that hasn’t been made by him ever again. (Unless he takes me back to Italy).
December is my favorite month of the year and there has definitely been much to love…There is something about the colder months that just makes me appreciate things like being home and being warm, snuggling up on the couch with Chutney, listening to good music or watching bad TV, staring at my Christmas tree or making comforting food. Here is a roundup of all that I’ve been loving lately.
channa mereya– To say that I’ve been obsessed with this song is an understatement. I liked it when I first heard it, before I had seen the movie, but there’s something about listening to it now after having seen the movie that is very touching. I thought the movie was incredibly heart felt and would recommend it- even if the story doesn’t appeal to everyone, I am certain you will find a song that moves you.
Chutney’s snowman pajamas- I couldn’t pass these up when I saw them at the store- Chutney looks so adorable in them! This morning he was still in bed and lazily gave me his paw one at a time so I could get them on. We got them from a dog boutique called Popcorn Paws.
This is Us: My husband and I have been watching this show ever since the very first episode aired and we were blown away by it all- the acting, the storyline, the twists and suspense. Most of all though, I think what keeps us watching is how every episode is full of emotion- the most powerful of all being love. This show is the best show to have come out in a very long time. I can’t remember the last time I saw something that was this good without being violent, disturbing, or vulgar.
Peeping santa bubble bar- I have many favorite Lush bath bombs but this one tops the list because not only is it festive, it smells amazing, has the perfect amount of bubbles yet leaves my skin baby soft! Not to mention how cute it looks…
Anastasia Beverly Hills lipgloss in Bordeaux- I am not a liquid lipstick girl. I just don’t like the way they look on me- I love the shine of a lip gloss but the pigmentation of a lipstick. This is the best of both worlds and isn’t super sticky. I love this color so much and am planning to pick up some other shades in the collection.
Twisted peppermint candle from Bath and Body works- Hands down, best candle made by the brand, have repurchased it several times and I just wish they carried it year round.
Mexican hot chocolate- We recently picked this up from Surla Table and I have to say, it takes hot chocolate to another level. I like to make mine with half parts skim and half parts soy milk. It’s the perfect drink to sip on while on a Netflix binge.
I was recently able to recover photos from my trip to Spain where I went one summer with a dear friend of mine. Sadly, I’ve lost many of my captures in Barcelona, which happened to be my favorite leg of our journey and probably one of my most loved cities. On the bright side, I see it as an excuse to revisit so I can relive the dream world of Gaudi. Have you been to Barcelona? If not, take someone who you love and get lost there…
