maybelline eye studio lasting drama gel eyeliner

I stopped wearing eye liner for a bit because I just felt like it was too much work and it never looked perfect on me.  I had been using the Sephora pencil eye liner which was doing the job, but I didn’t feel like it was anything too special. That’s when I discovered the Maybelline eye studio gel eyeliner. I had never used a gel eyeliner before and WOW was I pleasantly surprised!

First of all, it is SO EASY to use. It’s nearly impossible to mess up when using the awesome little brush it comes up. You just dip a small amount from the pot using the brush and it literally glides right on the lids like a dream. I have not had any problem forming a line of desired thickness. it is also perfect for a winged eye look.  I use this for my top lids but plan to experiment by using it for the bottom as well.

The other great thing about this eyeliner is that it’s great for those of us who are looking for something with a consistency and finish that’s in between a traditional pencil liner and a liquid eye liner. I personally find the liquid formula to be impossible to work with and almost always mess it up. The pencil liners are much easier to work with but fade throughout the day on me and lack that “wow” factor. This gel liner is the best of both worlds. If you haven’t tried it, I highly recommend it, especially for the price!!

The Maybelline eye studio gel eyeliner can be found at your local drugstore and at Amazon.

skincare tips

Skincare is such a personal thing. I have not been blessed with beautiful skin to say the least. As a teenager, I suffered from acne like most teens do but as I entered high school and my college years, my skin was clear for the most part. Probably because of this, I never really “took care” of it. I used whatever cleanser and moisturizer was around, never used a toner or exfoliating scrub and didn’t even know that there are steps to a skincare routine! So this went on for a number of years until recently (around 2 years ago), I started to experience adult hormonal acne.  I tried to take care of it on my own before visiting dermatologists who gave me rounds of medication which made my skin peel from being so dry. I suffered from red patches and irritation as a result. So I stopped using the medication…then my acne would come back and it was back to the meds…and so on.

I now realize that I really have to baby my skin in order for it to be at its best. Unfortunately, I can’t be lazy about my skincare and take it pretty seriously. It’s not perfect by any means, but it  does feel nourished, hydrated and healthy. To me, that is more important than trying the next best treatment to get ride of my acne scars. I am no longer fixated on this! (I was for a while).

In becoming more aware of skincare, I have tried numerous products. I was originally going to write an updated “holy grail” skincare post similar to this one, but I realize that it might not be so helpful. Skin is so different and individual. So I thought it would be more helpful to share some skincare tips. Here are some lessons I have learned along the way, which have made me not only more knowledgeable but also more confident in my skin:

  • wear sunscreen every single day
  • keep your routine minimal especially if you are experiencing breakouts
  • don’t try more than one new product at a time and use it once or twice per week at first to see how your skin reacts to it
  • use an eye cream every morning and every night if you are over the age of 18
  • do NOT pop your pimples! I am left with acne scars because of this terrible habit
  • use a serum and/or moisturizer every single night even if you have oily skin
  • hydrate your skin even more when traveling
  • drink at least 6 glasses of water a day! (this one is really hard for me, I still struggle with it)
  • don’t try every product under the sun! Stick with what you KNOW works for you
  • let your skin breathe on the weekends and minimize makeup application ( I like to use a CC cream like this one)
  • exfoliate your skin at least twice per week and use a mask once a week
  • INVEST in good quality skincare! Your skin will thank you for years to come!

a day in the park with chutney

We wanted to take advantage of this beautiful warm Fall weather and decided to take Chutney to a local park. He had such a great time! He actually loves to hear the words “leash”, “outside” and the phrases “are you ready?”, and “you wanna go outside?”. So any chance we get to take him out with us, it’s a treat for all of us. Lately I’ve been feeling so bad about leaving him home all day while we are at work and wanted to have a day during the weekend where we had some Chutney time. If I could take him to work with me, I would. I miss his little face so much during the day, especially now since he’s been giving me a proper goodbye every morning. He gets his front legs up to my knees and makes eyes with me:) I know what he’s thinking- “have a great day Mama, I’ll miss you!”. This fall day in the park was such a great family outing for us. I think these photos say it all- he had a wonderful time and so did his Mama and Daddy!!

who do you love

This an out and out love story- all us hopeless romantics out there will fall in love with Rachel and Andy. I found myself rooting for them to find a way to make their love story find its happily ever after. Throughout this love saga that spans over the years, the characters learn to grow up and how to love. They also learn a little something about heart break. The author tastefully incorporates racial, moral and social issues without going overboard.

This is a light read which I could easily see being turned into a movie, much like the author’s In her shoes was starring Cameron Diaz. If you’re looking for a story that will tug at your heart strings, this is for you.
