fresh rose face mask-perfect for warmer months

I love to use this mask now that the weather is getting warmer. The consistency is gel- like with bits of crushed roses. Needless to say, it smells AMAZING!! I find it to be quite cooling and the same time hydrating. This leaves my face feeling soothed, refreshed and super soft.

Warning: resist the temptation to keep touching your face afterwards!

This is a wonderful mask to add to your beauty arsenal, especially if you enjoy rose fragrance products. I like to use this after the fresh sugar face polish- see its review here! Such a luxurious combo:)

spaghetti and “meatballs”

I have always liked the idea of spaghetti and meatballs, but being a vegetarian since birth, I’ve never actually tried a meatball. The “meatballs” I have tried have been made of some sort of frozen meat substitute, which I do not find appetizing in the least!

So I thought I would give these meatballs a whirl by using eggplant as the base. I combine sautéed eggplant with mozzarella cheese, breadcrumbs, eggs and parmesan, and shallow fry, resulting in an extremely flavorful and moist ball of non- meat substituted goodness!!

My husband not only LOVED these but also volunteered to do the frying portion (he’s better at that than I am and doesn’t burn himself all the time like I do). We will definitely be making these again.

one eggplant, cubed & sprinkled with salt

one large yellow onion chopped

3 garlic cloves

2 eggs

1/2 cup shredded mozzarella

1/2 cup grated parmesan

1 tbsp italian seasoning

1 tsp red chilli pepper flakes

salt & pepper to taste

Sautee the onions, garlic and eggplant until eggplant has softened. Add seasonings.

Using a food processor, combine the eggplant mixture until it forms a smooth mixture.

Add remaining ingredients to eggplant mixture and refrigerate for 30 minutes or more. This will help bind the mixture so you can easily form the balls.

Form into rounded balls and shallow fry for 6 minutes, while turning them halfway. Be very careful!

Serve hot with spaghetti and marinara!

These would also be great inside a pita pocket with tahini and some shards of feta.

They freeze well too:) Check out my eggplant Parmesan post here!

my favorite blushes (great for Indian skin tone)

These are my two favorite blushes for Indian skin/olive skin/tanned/brown skin tones. I can use these for work during the day and can easily wear them to go out in the evenings. I don’t like a lot of pigment or shimmer on my cheeks. Both of these offer a more natural effect.

Benefit’s Rockateur:

I had no idea how much I would love this from seeing it in the packaging. When I put it on though, it is such a GORGEOUS shade! It’s a muted coral color, blends really well and I find that it’s really hard to put too much on, which is a plus for me. It’s never streaky and looks oh so natural! I have been using this every day since I bought it and think it’s a must have.

Clinique’s Sunset glow:

This one is a bit deeper in color and has a nice shimmer to it. I reach for this more in the winter months.  The sales rep at the Clinique counter suggested this to me and as soon as I tried it on, I was hooked. I really like the brush it comes with and use it to apply this blush.

Both of these blushes are excellent for sensitive skin!

What are your all time favorite blushes? I would love to know!

my amazing body

I think one of things I take for granted the most in life is my body. After finding these facts, it’s hard to believe that I so easily overlook it. I hope this gets you thinking more about how incredible our bodies really are!

One busy body…

– you produce roughly 2. 5 million new red blood cells each second.

– the average reader’s brain processes abut 300 words per minute.

– Your heart beats roughly 100,000 times each day

– the approximate number of colors the human eye can differentiate is 10 million

– You can use as many as 40 muscles to take a single step

What you can do to give your body what it needs:

exercise but don’t think of it as exercise

do nice things that are fun yet active, like taking a nice long walk, hiking, biking or even doing a fun DVD workout video at home

enjoy your cups of joe

studies show that drinking coffee helps decrease the risk of heart disease and melanoma, the most dangerous form of skin cancer

eat dark chocolate

reach for one that’s 70 percent cacao. Not only is it heart healthy, but the caffeine gives you energy when you’re feeling sluggish

step out of the shade

the benefits of vitamin D are endless! (don’t forget your SPF though)

feed your skin vitamin c

look for products with a vitamin c content of 10% or higher, which helps prevent the oxidation in skin that damages elastic tissue and collagen.

 walk (even a little!)

A 20 minute all each day may help you live longer. It also helps de-stress.

Beet it

Beets help lower blood pressure in people with hypertension.

Snooze your way slim

You are more likely to crave junk food if you get less than 6 hrs of sleep.

The medical benefits of meditation are numerous. Instead of trying to make your mind go blank, it may help to focus on a single thing or word that you personally find calming.

Have a vegetable course

When veggies are in the company of other foods, they often go untouched- so eat your veggies first!

Just do it!

Studies have shown that having sex results in partial or complete pain relief in people who experience migraines and severe headaches.

stay tuned for a post on the benefits of yoga!

chutney is 11 months old!

Our baby is 11 months old! Where does the time go?? I can’t even express how much we love him.  All I can say is that he makes us happy every single day and we are so lucky to have him in our lives. He makes us a family.

This little guy is just such a sweet and loving soul. He has nothing but love in his heart and all he wants to do is to love and to be loved (and play)!

estee lauder clear difference purifying mask

I continue to be blown away by Estee Lauder, having tried many different brands when it comes to skincare. I don’t think I have used a single  Estee Lauder product without having seen a positive result in my skin. Their products are not only effective, but smell amazing and do not break me out. This is a company that has been around for a long time, and I realize now that it’s for a reason. They know what they’re doing! They even have a line that I particularly love called clear difference. I have been using the serum daily and I use the spot treatment as necessary. Both work amazingly well for my skin. They contain salycylic acid, which my skin happens to love.

I recently purchased the clear difference purifying mask and I wasn’t surprised by how amazing it was since I’ve had such good luck with the clear difference line. This is a purifying mask containing soft clay and tiny exfoliating granules. I enjoyed how it left my skin feeling refreshing clean & bright, the appearance of pores visibly decreased, and my skin just felt tingly and soft.  This mask also helps prevent future breakouts, which is great for my hormonal skin!

Overall, I highly recommend the clear difference line to anyone who is acne prone, presently struggling with acne, or wants to keep acne at bay. I have, and will continue to repurchase all of the products from this line, including the treatment serum, spot treatment, bb cream, oil control gel cream, and of course this mask.

Thanks once again to estee lauder for creating such amazing products!

good reads

prep by curtis sittenfeld

Readers will enjoy following Lee on her journey through a prestigious boarding school…and will sympathize with (and get annoyed with) her self- scrutinizing and obsessive teenage behavior. Though the story follows a group of teenagers, the message I took home from reading this was that we all, even as adults, want to belong. I felt nostalgic of my own teenage years while reading about Lee’s experiences, even the smallest of which seem so dramatic during adolescence.  An addictive read!

baingan aloo (spicy Indian eggplant with potatoes)

I have made this dish many times since we’ve been married, but my husband and I both agree, that this was the best it has ever come out! Thanks to this new cookbook, I feel like I am relearning how to make Indian classics. I recommend this book to anyone- those of us who make Indian food all the time and don’t think they need to follow a recipe, and those of us who don’t know what garam masala is… newbies and experts alike will learn something from it. Anupy Singla is simply good at cooking. As for me, I cannot wait to dive in and try every recipe from this book (the vegetarian ones, of course)!
