my world.

As we say our goodbyes to the Summer and wait for a consistent Fall, here is a round up of what’s been happening and what I’ve been loving. These are some things that have made the transition from lazy summer days into early mornings a little more enjoyable.

blade runner – I wasn’t sure what to expect when we went to see this movie, but it was unlike anything I’ve ever seen. It doesn’t feel like a movie. It was so well done that it felt like we were in every scene. The acting is superb and for someone who doesn’t usually enjoy futuristic sci fi movies, this was one of the best I’ve seen. I highly recommend watching this one in the movie theatre.

nest indigo- This is my favorite new scent. I realized how much I love it the other day when I found myself sniffing the clothes I had worn with this lingering scent on them.

spinach and artichoke lasagna- This is my all time favorite lasagna. I’ve been hooked ever since the first time I made it. If you are a lover of all things spinach and artichoke, give this one a try.

darjeeling tea- A dear friend of mine recently brought back this amazingly delicious tea from India. Nothing can compare to the flavor of this darjeeling tea, no matter how many different kinds I’ve had here in the States. They are just not as good. I often look forward to having a cup of this when I get home from work.

FRESH Soy Face Cleansing Milk- This is my new go to facial cleanser for both the mornings and evenings. The texture is so soothing and milky. It never leaves my skin feeling tight, but incredibly supple and soft. I highly recommend this for anyone who has sensitive skin and enjoys a non foaming facial cleanser.

naked smoky eye pallete– I recently purchased this eye shadow palette, even though I wasnt in the market for one because Sephora was offering it a discounted price and I’ve heard so many good things about the Naked palettes. I’ve been using it every day since this arrived in the mail- and have been loving it so much. No wonder Naked palettes are so popular- the quality speaks for itself!

zara cardigan  There isn’t much that I needed to add to my fall wardrobe, but an oversized chunky cardigan was on my list. As soon as I saw this, I knew I would want to live in it. It is so soft and cozy. I don’t have anything in this shade of green. It feels like walking around with a warm blanket wrapped around me. Fall I am ready for you- I have my cardigan!

Elena Ferrante Neapolitan novels–  This is a series of four novels that is about two friends.  It follows their lives from the time they were little girls playing with their dolls, into adulthood. Their friendship is complicated, as most relationships with those we love tend to be. What struck me the most about these novels, was not so much the story line but the author’s skill in telling the story. I felt like I knew these two characters like they were a part of my life and truly missed them once I finished the series. I cannot wait for the HBO series to come out.

essential oils- I recently started using essential oils and have really been enjoying them. I like to add a few drops of either peppermint or eucalyptus oil to the floor of the shower. When the warm water hits the oil, it creates a wonderfully fragrant experience. The peppermint oil is especially helpful in alleviating my migraines.

laal ishq– I have been struggling to get this song out of my head. It’s no surprise that it’s been sung by Arijit Singh.

What has been going on with you lately? What have you been loving?

nest indigo

I’ve been on the lookout for a Fall fragrance and I was so excited to get a sample from Sephora when my sister recently recommended this one. We have similar taste in fragrances so I thought I would try this one. I can’t describe how it smells except that it’s amazing! I wore it for a few days to make sure it didn’t trigger any migraines, which perfume sometimes does to me. I loved it so much that I had to order the full size right away. Here are the notes:

Moroccan Tea, Kashmir Wood, Cardamom, Wild Fig.
Warm. Aromatic. Mysterious.

I don’t have anything like this- the scent is just so unique and lingers in the best way possible. I can definitely smell tea and spice. It’s perfect for the cooler months.

I highly recommend this if you’re on the hunt for a new fall fragrance. This is going to give my beloved CHANEL COCO MADEMOISELLE some serious competition!

What are your favorite fall fragrances?

my world.

Here’s what I’ve been loving lately, as we wait for Spring to finally arrive…

We recently saw Rangoon in the theaters, and a few of the songs were great. I find them to be pretty addicting though, so listen in moderation:)

station eleven- This wasn’t a book I thought I would like but I couldn’t put it down around 100 pages into it. The “end of the world” concept doesn’t appeal to me, but the way this book switches between before and after the collapse, kept me interested. The premise is that a pandemic hits the entire world, and civilization quickly and abruptly comes to an end. There is a group of people called the traveling symphony, who go to the different settlements to entertain the surviving population. The connection between the characters and how all the author connects all the dots at the end is what makes this book special. Also worth mention is when breathe becomes air– really enjoyed this one as well.

Vanilla Pistachio candle- I love my bath and body works candles but there is something so subtle about this one that I just love. I purchased this from Anthropologie, where I always seem to find unique candles.

drink chobani– This is my new favorite breakfast drink. I’ve been drinking special k for breakfast for a while now but when I saw that chobani came out with a yogurt drink, I thought I would try it. It has 14 grams of protein which keeps me going until lunch. It tastes delish and comes in different flavors- I have only tried the strawberry banana and really enjoy it.

tocca simone– This perfume by Tocaa is spring in a bottle! I was in the market for new scent for the transition months into summer and this is so perfect.

Here are the notes:

Top: Crisp Apple, Fresh Picked Watermelon, Lemon, Calypsone

Middle: Frangipani, Ylang- Ylang, Rose Petals, Freesia

Bottom: Creamy Lactones, Blonde Woods, Musk, Amber, Nirvanolide

this sweatshirt-  I recently got this sweatshirt from Zara and can’t stop wearing it. I love the pink color, the fluffy sleeves and how comfy it is. I like to wear it with leggings on the weekends and with jeans to work (on a Friday). Zara has been killing it lately!

my world.

I want to say I can’t believe it’s already February but I honestly feel like the Holidays were so long ago. For once, I don’t feel like time is flying. Here is a roundup of what I’ve been obsessing over lately.

MUFE stick foundation:

I’ve been using this foundation for the past few weeks now and have been loving it how easily it blends and how flawless the coverage is. I also like that the coverage isn’t too matte- I don’t like a very matte look during the winter months. This was a great find and I’m not sure what took me so long to try it.

too faced semi sweet chocolate bar:

unnamedI’ve had this eye shadow palette for a while, but I recently started using it more consistently. I love how many looks I can achieve with this, and it’s so fun to play with. It makes getting ready in the mornings more fun! See my review here.

Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess Powder Bronzer:

This is my go to bronzer- I use it every single day to give my face some warmth. I love the finish it gives- it never looks ashy and is pretty fool proof. I like to use a big fluffy brush or the brush it comes with.

Steve Madden studded buckle booties- I get compliments every time I wear these booties. They’re comfortable enough to wear all day and have a bit of edge with the buckles. I got them in the Fall from the Steve Madden store and wasn’t able to find the exact pair I have, but these are similar.

ZARA check maxi coat: This is my new favorite coat- warm, long and trendy. I can wear this with leggings and a sweatshirt and still look stylish:)

the night circusThis book was such a joy to read. It was a treat for the senses. I felt like I could smell the foods of the circus, see the elaborate tents, and feel the magic of the circus. Reading this book is like entering a fantastic world- a true escape. This book makes you wonder what is real and what is magic? What makes something real and what makes it a dream world? Highly recommend this one- a disclaimer though is that the plot is slow moving but worth your patience at the beginning of the story.

I recently started making my own trail mix using just three ingredients in equal parts- almonds, dried cranberries, and dark chocolate chips. It is so delicious and easy to put together. I like to have it in the afternoons at work as a pick me up.

What have you been loving lately?

sephora haul

I decided to start off the the New Year with quite a few beauty buys that I’ve been loving! I am so excited to recommend every one of these products that I’ve recently purchased. Many of these were on a my wish list for a while so I’m happy to now say they are on my makeup dresser!

Here’s what I recently purchased and have been loving. I am only including new products (new to me) in this haul, not ones that I repurchased.

Farmacy Honey Potion Renewing Antioxidant Hydration Mask:

This is the only face mask I’ve been using on my dry winter skin, and I have to say I love it. I enjoy the subtle warming sensation on my face and how it transforms into a luxurious thick cream, leaving my skin hydrated and supple.

CLINIQUE Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector & Optimizer

I am really happy with this serum so far- I’ve been using ir every night for a little less than 4 weeks now and I’ve already begun to notice that my post acne marks are lighter than they were before and that overall my skin looks brighter and healthier. The texture of this serum is great- it applies like satin and leaves my skin velvety smooth.

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Lip Therapy:

I like to use this lip balm at night or in the mornings before applying my makeup. I don’t think it does anything amazing to my lips other than keep them hydrated and soft. I like that it has no scent or color.

Marc Jacobs Beauty Fineliner Ultra-Skinny Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner Blacquer:

I think this one of the products I am most excited about. I was on the hunt for an eye liner for such a long time. I am not great at applying eye liner and wanted something thin so I could be more precise with it. This is great! I love not only how thin it is, but also that it stays put all day. Do you have a hard time applying eye liner? What is your favorite eye liner?

belif Peat Miracle Revital Eye Cream:

I recently got myself a sample of this eye cream, after hearing many wonderful reviews. Having used up my sample, I was very impressed with the texture of this cream. I love the thickness of it and how well it absorbs into my eye area. I’ve been using it in the mornings before applying makeup and at night. I have now been using the full size for around 2 weeks- so in total I’ve been using this day and night for a month and wow I love it! I find the scent to be very plesant.

Marc Jacobs Beauty Le Marc Liquid Lip Crème Slow Burn 458:

I am so obsessed with the formula of this lip cream!! It’s the perfect marriage between a liquid lipstick and a lipgloss. It’s creamy, hydrating, not overly pigmented and the shade is just gorgeous! I think I have to pick up some more shades in the range.

MAKE UP FOR EVER Ultra HD Invisible Cover Stick Foundation 173 = Y445:

I am not a huge fan of the MUFE Ultra HD foundation, but this stick version of the foundation is a total game changer for me. Fist of all, the color is beyond perfect for my skin tone. Recently I have been struggling to find the right shade and undertone in my foundations. Aside from the shade choice, this foundation stick applies like a dream- it’s super super easy to blend and looks like my skin but better! I think this is my new holy grail foundation. I like to blend it out with a makeup brush rather than a beauty sponge. Highly recommend! This is so lightweight and travel friendly as well.

Anastasia Beverly Hills lipglosses in Bordeaux, Metallic Rose and Vintage –

I am not a liquid lipstick girl. I just don’t like the way they look on me- I love the shine of a lip gloss but the pigmentation of a lipstick. These lipglosses are the best of both worlds. They’re not super sticky, but have just the right amount of shine and pigment. The best part though? They smell like vanilla cupcakes:)

I keep the vintage shade on my desk at work since it looks great on top of any lip color I have on.

What have you gotten from Sephora recently??

my world.

As it gets colder, I find myself looking forward to coming home more and more after work- to relax, unwind and be with my family. Here’s the roundup of what I’ve been loving lately:

Dissolving Boundaries by Anoushka Shankar: This song is from her album Land of Gold, which we saw live a few months ago at City Winery. Listening to the album again recently, I am pretty blown away by how innovative it is. This song stands out to me, but they are all worth listening to. It was my favorite among the ones she performed that night.

Aaj jaane ki Zid na Karo by Arijit Singh: Lately I find myself listening to a beautuflly sung song asking who’s the singer? More often than not, I find out that it’s Arijit Singh. I guess I am a little late in discovering this voice, but I greatly enjoy the emotion with which he sings. His rendition of this ghazal is a particular favorite of mine and has been on repeat.

Arrival:  This film is definitely not what I thought it would be about. It is thought provoking and I found it especially interesting, as a Speech and Language Pathologist. The idea of language and communication plays a large role here, as well as the concept of time. I think this is my favorite movie of 2016.

Passengers: I wasn’t expecting to like this movie as much as I did! I don’t want to give away too much but the concept is very interesting. You will have a conversation with your loved one about this one all the way home.

La La Land:  If you like music and if you like love stories, then you will love this movie. I love everything about this movie EXCEPT for the ending! Also let’s not forget that it won every Golden Globe award that it was nominated for.

an equal music– I am about 200 pages into this book and have been enjoying it very much. I wouldn’t call it a light read and it did take me some time to get into it, but the writing is very impressive. This is my first Vikram Seth read and I’m looking forward to reading more of his work.

AERIN Rose Hand And Body Cream- This was gifted to me by a dear friend for Christmas and I’ve been using it every evening post showering. The rose scent is subtle yet lingers just long enough. I also love the lip balm by the brand. Their products are indulgent but so worth it.

Farmacy Honey Potion Renewing Antioxidant Hydration Mask: I am obsessed with this mask! It has replaced pretty much all my other masks. See my review here.

The Book of Awakening Inspiration Cards: After having read the book I knew I had to get these inspirational cards. I like choosing one at random every morning and when I have the time, to do some reflective writing. It’s a peaceful way to start the day.

Elements of pizza: I purchased this cookbook for my husband and we have been enjoying the best homemade pizza ever since. Being a natural baker, he is no novice to baking his own pizza from scratch, but after discovering this book, his pizza game has elevated.  His thoughts: “A Neapolitan pizza requires much less yeast than you would expect. Overall the ingredients are quite simple and it’s just a matter of technique. Lastly, a pizza stone is essential”. The results? You will have to come over one of these days to find out! I don’t think I can ever eat pizza that hasn’t been made by him ever again. (Unless he takes me back to Italy).

winter lip care

My lips are telling me it it’s winter! Here are some of my favorite lip products for the winter months- I find myself reaching for one of these at any given time of the day. There’s nothing I dislike more than when my lips are feeling dry or chapped and these lip products have been in my lip rotation and are winter lip saviors.

Tony Moly lip balm: I like to keep this lip balm on my makeup dresser and use it before getting ready in the mornings. I love how moisturizing it is, its subtle honey scent and how it wears well under lipstick or gloss.

Nuxe Reve De Miel Ultra-Nourishing Lip Balm: This is a great balm to use as part of a nightly routine, as it does not budge at all. I wake up to hydrated and soft lips. This is for lips that are quite dry or chapped since it is really thick and intense.

Nivea Lip Care A Kiss of Milk and Honey Soothing Lip Care:   This lip balm is perfect to keep in your purse, work bag, or pocket because it’s texture is light weight yet very hydrating. I also love the scent.

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment Sunscreen SPF 15:  Fresh makes such high quality products and this lip balm is no exception. I have gone through many of these and like to apply this as I head out.

Rosebud Perfume Co.Minted Rose Lip Balm: This has been a staple on my bedside table for years now. I can’t be without it and have one in my travel kit as well. My mom has been using the same little tin for years now!

Lush lip balms- These are not my favorite lip balms because I don’t find them to be as hydrating as the ones I’ve listed above. They do the trick but need to be reapplied very often. They smell nice and have a smooth texture. They are very travel friendly since they take up such little space.

What do you like to apply to your winter lips?

3 new beauty products for the new year

I wanted to step my skincare game for the new year, and though I love my current skincare routine, I think these products will really enhance my current routine. I’ve fallen in love with this face mask, dark spot correcting serum, and eye cream and am so excited to use them this year as part of my regular skincare routine!

Farmacy Honey Potion Renewing Antioxidant Hydration Mask:

This has quickly become my favorite face mask. I’ve used it three times now and have been enjoying the entire experience of this mask- it feels like a luxurious treatment. The texture is that of a jelly or balm, similar to honey but not quite as sticky.  As soon as you start to massage it onto your hands, it gently warms up and transforms into a rich cream. After ten minutes, I use a cool washcloth to remove before rinsing my face. Not only does this mask feel like an absolute pampering treat, it leaves my skin soft, smooth and nourished. I have yet to find a mask as relaxing and pamper worthy as this one. Highly recommend for any skin type.

The first time I used this mask, I felt a tingling sensation when I began to rinse it off.  Using a cool washcloth first alleviated that sensation and I did not feel it again the second time I used. The tingling had lasted for a few minutes, but did not cause any redness or allergic reaction.

CLINIQUE Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector & Optimizer:

I am so excited to see how this serum works for my skin with time- but so far I have been loving it. Here is a brief description-

“Clinique’s two-pronged approach to lasting brightness and even tone. Our clinical-strength serum with CL-302 complex is proven to help reverse the appearance of dark spots and blemish marks starting in four weeks. Plus a soothing optimizer keeps skin calm, helping it better resist future darkening. Dispensed in ideal balance via a unique dual-chamber pump.”

I think the dual chamber pump is really neat! This serum has an amazingly silky texture, which is exactly how my skin feels when I apply this. I use moisture surge after this sinks in and so far I am LOVING this combination. It’s been a while since I’ve regularly used a serum so I am hoping this is the one for me.

belif Peat Miracle Revital Eye Cream:

I recently got myself a sample of this eye cream, after hearing many wonderful reviews. Having used up my sample, I was very impressed with the texture of this cream. I love the thickness of it and how well it absorbs into my eye area. I’ve been using it in the mornings before applying makeup and at night. I have been enjoying it and will be purchasing the full size. I also like the subtle scent!

Wishing you a beautiful 2017!

best of beauty 2016

As the year comes to end, it’s time to round up the best in beauty for the year. Here is what I have been enjoying and reaching for again and again as part of my beauty routine. I wanted to share these with you and hope that you are able to try out some of these as well.

Best in Skincare:

best makeup remover– clinique take the day off cleansing oil (or balm)

Either of these two are an essential part of my skincare routine and I have to use this to remove my makeup. Nothing else comes close to removing all of my makeup, without leaving a residue or irritating my eyes. The best part is how soothing they feel on the skin. It’s like a little ritual. More reviews here.

best facial cleanser– Cetaphil derma control foam wash I have tried an endless number of cleansers, both high end and drugstore and this is the BEST cleanser I have ever used. I’ve repurchased this for over a year now, have a bottle in each of our bathrooms, back home at my parents’ house, and one at my in laws house. I cannot be without it. I use it am and pm as the first step to my skincare routine. What I love about it is that the foam formula does not dry out the skin, no matter how liberal you are with it. I don’t know how this can leave my face so clean WITHOUT drying it out. No other cleanser has ever come close to doing this in my experience. I highly recommend this to anyone with any skin type, male or female.

best facial scrub– dermalogica microfoliant

This mild exfoliator is my every day acne buster.  Even though I don’t feel the need to use this every night anymore, I still keep it in the shower so it’s available for me to use 2-3 times per week. I love how mild yet effective this is. See review here.

best facial moisturizer– clinique moisture surge

I can’t even count how many of these I have gone through. No other moisturizer has come close to proving the perfect amount of hydration for my skin, without leaving my skin greasy. It does not interfere with makeup application, is fragrance free, works perfectly any season of the year and is not ridiculously expensive. This is my one holy grail skincare product that I cannot be without. See my review here.

best facial sunscreen– MD solar sciences

This has an SPF of 50 which is ideal sun protection for my face. I also love that it keeps my skin matte and is wonderful to use for even sensitive and acne prone skin like mine. This is my holy grail facial sunscreen for every day of the year. See my review here.

best anti aging product- I have not been loyal to any anti aging serum or moisturizer this year and have been focused on a simple and consistent skincare routine this year. The best anti aging products for me are those that do not break me out, leave my skin plump and hydrated.  I have stepped away from harsh serums, exfoliators and treatments that promise anti aging. See my current skincare routine here.

best facial mask – My favorite mask of the year is a DIY! I like using manuka honey in the warmer months for about 20 minutes before rinsing off and in the cooler months I like to add coconut oil to it.

best eye cream– I have been loyal to this eye cream by Shiseido but have just recently begun looking into others. I have enjoyed this eye cream but am now wanting something less rich and thick. I would love to hear your recommendations.

Best in Makeup:

best lipstick –bareMineralsGEN NUDE™ Radiant Lipstick

I am so in love with the formulation of these lipsticks! They feel like butter on the lips, making my lips super soft. I love the shade tutu but will be adding to my collection. I love this lipstick because it isn’t super pigmented, which I prefer for every day. I also love that I don’t need to use a lip balm underneath it. It is creamy, buttery perfection in a tube. Well done Bare Minerals. I did a review here.

best lip gloss – Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Gloss

I absolutely love the formula of these lip glosses and much prefer them to the liquid lipsticks from the line. I am just not a liquid lipstick girl- they dry out my lips and I hate that feeling! The shade bordeaux is a great date night or going out shade while metallic rose is perfect for every day. These lip glosses are not sticky, smell like vanilla cupcakes and are such a pleasure to use. Love love love them.

best lip balmNivea kiss  of milk and honey and AERIN Rose Lip Conditioner

I apply the Nivea balm several times throughout the day and before going to bed. It softens the lips, hydrates and smells wonderful. The Aerin rose lip balm is more like a kiss of luxury on the lips. I find myself reaching for this any time of the day just so my lips can smell like roses. It is more shiny then a balm but not quite a lip gloss.

best blush- benefit rockateur

Benefit’s rockateur is a shade that will go with any makeup look and gives just the perfect amount of color. You can build it up depending on what look you are trying to create. I can wear this to work every single day and wear it for glam looks in the evening. Super versatile. See review here.

best eye shadow palette– too faced semi sweet chocolate bar

Too faced semi sweet palette is hands down my palette of choice. I reach for this palette more than any other palette I own. I like to travel with it, wear it to work, nights out, and even for no makeup makeup looks. See review here.

best eyelinerHourglass 1.5MM Mechanical Gel Eye Liner

I love this eye liner because of how thin the pencil is. It gives me the most precise application ever. This is quite pricey but is hands down the best eye liner I have ever used. It’s a spurge that has changed my eye liner game forever. It stays put all day

best mascara– L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Original Mascara, Carbon Black for every day and Marc Jacobs BeautyVelvet Noir Major Volume Mascara for a bit of drama.

I don’t need a mascara to lengthen my lashes since they are already pretty long but I do love the volume each of these mascaras gives me. The L’oreal one is fuss free and easy to use while the Marc Jacobs I have to be a bit more careful with, but I do love that clumpy lashes look it provides- super sexy.

best concealer– I haven’t been committed to a single concealer this year because I find that as long as I use this before concealing, any concealer works perfectly under my eyes. Some of my favorites are Nars, L’oreal, and L.A. girl, as well as Estee Lauder.

best bb cream – bare minerals complexion rescue

Bare minerals complexion rescue is great for weekends or those lucky days when you don’t need much coverage. It has a dewy yet natural finish which isn’t shiny. The shade range is excellent. I prefer to wear this on weekends and all summer long. I also like to sometimes mix it into my foundation to add a bit of a more natural look.

best foundationNars velvet matte skin tint SPF 30

I love this foundation so much that I mix in a bit of this into any other foundation I use. The formula and shade is perfect for my skin type and skin tone. See my review here.

best makeup brushes- real techniques

Real techniques makes the best makeup brushes as far as quality, price and functionality are concerned. Each of their brushes is versatile, hold up well after several washes and blend makeup beautifully.

Best in Hair:

best shampoo and conditioner– Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion Smoothing Shampoo & Conditioner

I love how soft this leaves my hair. I haven’t switched to anything else in close to a year and that says a lot.

Here are some of my favorite body products:

Favorite shower gel: Aveeno Skin Relief Nourishing Body Wash, Coconut

Favorite shower oil: L’Occitane Almond Shower Oil

Favorite body cream: Shea Butter Ultra Rich Body Cream and a recent favorite AERIN Beauty Rose Hand & Body Cream

Favorite hand cream: Almond Delicious Hands and Roses et Reines Hand & Nail Cream

Best fragrance: CHANEL COCO MADEMOISELLE Eau de Parfum

Over the past year, this has become my signature scent. Knowing how much I love it, my husband purchased the largest bottle for me while we were killing some time at CDG airport- nothing better than some duty free shopping. I don’t think I will ever grow tired of this scent- it’s sophisticated, sexy and classic.

What are your beauty favorites from the past year??
