summer favorites

I refuse to believe that summer is coming to an end, because it isn’t (yet!), but I wanted to share  all the goodies I have been loving during these sunny, never ending days of bliss. What have you been loving this summer? I would love to know, so please share in your comments below!

Nars velvet Matte skin tint- This has been my go to foundation/moisturizer/spf this summer. I have been using it every single day. It’s one step, it’s easy, no brush needed. It doesn’t get any better in terms of coverage for a product that feels so light weight and looks so natural on the skin. I am in the shade Annapurna. See my other review here.

The fault in our stars-  I found myself without a book on our way to Puerto Rico, after having finished China Rich Girlfriend, the sequel to Crazy rich Asians, both of which I found to be highly entertaining. Since I cannot be on a beach without a  good read, my husband came to the rescue (he is my real life hero), and suggested we pick up a book for me at the airport once we landed in Isla Verde. He picked out this read, and though he refuses to read it, after seeing me tear up while reading as we flew back to New York, I highly recommend this book. It deals with a tough topic with wit, humor and kindness. Now I have to convince my husband to watch the movie with me. I can’t watch it alone, can I??

Mon Paris by Yves Saint Laurent-  I first got a whiff of this while reading a magazine a few months ago and thought “omg, that smells like everything I would want a perfume to smell like”. So I went to Sephora and got a sample. Within the first day of trying it out, I must have gotten asked three times what perfume I was wearing. I get migraines easily and especially from fragrances, so to be sure this dream come true scent wouldn’t induce any headache drama, I got myself another sample. Again, I was asked by random strangers while shopping and eating out what I was wearing–and no headaches! Needless to say, I had to purchase this in full size. It doesn’t smell like anything else I own and I am obsessed!

Taylor Swift 1989-  This album has been my morning workout jam. It gets me going, keeps me going, and has converted me into a Taylor Swift fan. It’s a very well produced album.

Summer will always be such a special time of the year and I love it so much. I hope that you are enjoying your summer days and nights as well and are making every moment count.

cheesy garlic bread

IMG_1617IMG_1621

I will admit that I have a youtube beauty video related addiction. So the other night I decided I would get out of my beauty youtube video watching, and look for some good food channels. I was honestly feeling quite bored of watching youtubers review and demo the same beauty products that everyone else is doing videos on- it just gets a little mundane after a while. I usually love to watch them, but I was just in the mood for something different. I found some great food channels, including street foods of India, which was so fascinating to watch. I also came across a channel called Laura in the kitchen and I literally binge watched her videos for over an hour. She knows what she is doing, explains everything really well and is fun to watch!

When I came across this cheesy garlic bread video, I knew I had to make it the next day. That is exactly what we did and I have to say, this is the best garlic bread. Ever. It will spoil you for life. You will not want for any other garlic bread. The next time we make this, I will ask my husband to make his famous Spaghetti aglio e olio- they are a match made in heaven.

recipe courtesy laura in the kitchen:

Ingredients:
1 Loaf of Ciabatta Bread or any kind of Italian bread
6 Cloves of Garlic
¼ cup of Extra Virgin Olive Oil
2 Tbsp of Fresh Parsley
1 Cup of Shredded Mozzarella
Freshly Grated Parmiggiano Reggiano

Method:

1) Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and set aside.

2) In a small food processor or in a blender, add the garlic, oil and parsley and puree until smooth.

3) Smear this mixture on both sides of the bread. Place the top of the bread on top of the bottom and wrap it in aluminum foil, bake it for 10 minutes.

4) Unwrap the bread and lay making sure it cut side up, sprinkle over the mozzarella and grate about 1 cup of parmiggiano all over both sides of the bread. Return to the oven for 10 to 15 minutes or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.

5) Slice and serve right away!

a cozy night in

unnamed (13)

With the storm approaching, I am so looking forward to being trapped indoors:) Home is my favorite place to be, even more so when there is a blizzard so I have a valid reason for curling up on the couch with my boys. Here are some things to make your cozy time at home even more cozy.

#1 put on a pair of comfy pj’s- We all have that pair of pajamas that are super soft and comfortable pajamas that are just begging to be worn. I love these and how cute are these for Valentine’s Day?!

#2 light a fire- No fireplace? no problem! just click here and if you can link it to your TV, you’ve set the perfect ambiance for a cozy night in.

#3 curl up with a good book-  I love to curl up with a great read when it gets cold outside. If you want to unplug, turn off your technological devices. Facebook can wait.

#4 have a netflix marathon- If you’re not into reading or just not in the mood, how about a New Girl or Mindy Project marathon?

#5 make a comforting meal- Try this orzo recipe or if you’re feeling lazy, order a pizza and call it a night!

How do you like to have a cozy night in?

diy turmeric face mask

IMG_1323

Every once in a while I like to turn to my kitchen pantry for all the essential ingredients I need to nourish my skin. Today I went with a brightening mask, which also has acne fighting properties. I used my beloved manuka honey, along with turmeric (also known as “haldi“) and yoghurt to make this mask. It can be used on the face and all over the body as well. Just a warning though if you do plan to use it as a body mask- it will get messy!

Ingredients:

one tablespoon yoghurt

one tablespoon manuka honey

one teaspoon turmeric

Benefits of turmeric: reduces redness, inflammation, blemishes, evens skin tone and brightens complexion while fighting wrinkles

benefits of yoghurt: hydrates and exfoliates skin by removing dead skin cells, fights acne

spinach artichoke lasagna

IMG_8132.JPG

If you love that cheesy, gooey spinach and artichoke dip served in restaurants, then you will love this lasagna. I wasn’t sure I would be crazy about these flavors in lasagna, but they are absolutely delicious. I cannot wait to make this again! This is not heavy so you can indulge in a hearty portion without feeling too bad about it:)

september favorites

I am bit late in posting my favs for last month, but hey, better late than never! Here are some things I have been loving. It’s kind of shocking how Fall weather hit us all of a sudden. We literally went from 80 degrees to chilly 50 degree mornings! Chutney wore his sweater this morning before heading out for his walk! He was very happy about it:)

Here we go!

IMG_7135

Starbucks toasted graham latte– I went in for my first pumpkin spice latte of the season a few weeks ago and saw this beautifully illustrated on chalkboard–I love how starbucks does that, by the way! I thought I’d give it a try and wow I am so glad I did. I don’t like my drinks super sweet, so I asked for half the amount of pumps they add for sweetness (which is what I usually do). I also asked to have mine with soy milk- this is imperative! I will explain why later. One sip and I was hooked! This drink has just the right amount of sweetness, tastes like smores and is topped with crushed graham crackers. Need I say more?? You HAVE to have this with soy milk- it tastes much better this way! My husband and I found ourselves in need of a caffeine break while shopping this past weekend and when we placed our orders, they told us they ran out of soy. So I got it with 2% milk and was so disappointed. I think the soy is really important in this drink and enhances the flavor. If you wanna get really crazy, get an extra shot. WOW is all I can say.

Bath and Body Works Candles: Read all about my obsession with fall candles here.

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid lipstick in Lolita: I love the color and staying power of this lipstick along with the gorgeous color! This is my perfect fall shade. It looks great during the day or night and is universally flattering. I like to wear this with neutral eye makeup (using too faced natural mattes or Clinique’s morning java  and I’ve been loving it with Clinique’s blush in sunset glow. It’s my favorite fall look!

Why not me? by Mindy Kaling: This book along with the author’s previous book, Is everyone hanging out without me?, are hilarious. I don’t think I have ever laughed out loud so much while reading a book. I even had people wondering what I was reading as I laughed my way to and from work on the subway this past month:) This is a great read and I am such a fan of Mindy Kaling. It’s too bad her show is not on the air anymore. I need to get Hulu!

Chutney’s new rain coat: Our little guy was getting to dirty going out in the rain and even when the ground was wet. So we had to get him a raincoat. Ok, maybe we didn’t have to and maybe I put it on him a few times when it wasn’t raining or even wet outside, but how cute does he look?! Just when I thought he couldn’t get any cuter, I discover doggie raincoats? I can’t even.

What are your September favs? beauty, books, movies, TV shows? Would love to know!!

blueberry crumb cake

IMG_9264

I saw pioneer woman make this the other day on her show and had to make it! I wasn’t sure if it would come out ok with frozen blueberries, but it turned out great. This cake is moist, sweet and tart at the same time from the berries, and just the thing in the morning or afternoon with a cup of coffee, and served warmed with a pat of butter… so go ahead and indulge a little!
